Vancouver est l'une des rares grandes villes au monde à être également un haut lieu des sports d'hiver. Les trois stations de sports d'hiver de Vancouver (Cypress, Grouse et Seymour) font partie des montagnes North Shore, qui sont visibles depuis le centre-ville et accessibles en moins de 45 minutes de route. La ville a accueilli les meilleurs skieurs et snowboarders du monde à l'occasion des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques d'hiver de 2010. 

Chaque station présente des attraits différents, mais toutes ont certaines caractéristiques en commun : forte valeur ajoutée, grandes opportunités de ski/surf nocturne et vues époustouflantes sur la ville en contrebas. Avec plus de 50 pistes et 243 ha de domaine skiable, il n'est pas étonnant que le mont Cypress soit la station favorite des habitants et des touristes. Cypress est la plus grande station de ski de Vancouver et la seule qui ait accueilli officiellement des épreuves des Jeux olympiques d'hiver de 2010.
