Les randonnées dans la région de Thompson Okanagan sont particulièrement enrichissantes. Il n’est pas rare de traverser plusieurs zones géoclimatiques, même sur les sentiers de randonnée les plus courts. Les sentiers conviennent à tous les niveaux de compétence et comportent des marches faciles et courtes dans la nature ainsi que des randonnées hors piste présentant des défis. Il est également possible de pratiquer la randonnée en hélicoptère dans les montagnes Cariboo près de Valemount.

Deux des plus grands et plus célèbres parcs sauvages et naturels de la Colombie-Britannique se trouvent dans la région de Thompson Okanagan : le parc provincial de Wells Gray et le parc provincial de Mount Robson (qui abrite le populaire sentier du lac Berg). De nombreux autres parcs, comme les parcs provinciaux de Cathedral et de Monahsee disposent également de sentiers de randonnée à explorer. 

La variété des plantes et des paysages soutient ici la diversité de la vie sauvage. Élans, cerfs, ours, chèvres de montagne, caribous et bien d’autres ont fait de cette région leur foyer, tandis que les prairies remplies de fleurs sauvages recouvrent les pentes de nombreuses régions alpines en été.
