Plus de la moitié des principales stations de ski de Colombie-Britannique se situent dans la région des Rocheuses de Kootenay. Le territoire de cette région est dominé par d'impressionnantes chaînes de montagne (montagnes Monashee et Purcell, Rocheuses, monts Selkirk), où 12 à 18 m de poudreuse légère et sèche tombent chaque année.

Les stations de ski et de snowboard situées dans les Rocheuses de Kootenay se caractérisent par des pistes peu occupées et de courtes files d'attente, ainsi que par une atmosphère décontractée et amicale. Le nombre et la proximité des stations le long de la « Powder Highway » permettent aux skieurs et snowboarders de profiter d'un large choix de pistes durant leur séjour.

Les Rocheuses de Kootenay comptent également un certain nombre de pistes de ski et de snowboard plus petites et adaptées à toute la famille.
